Newlyweds in Quarantine

As I sit down to write this, I have this strange feeling of almost not remembering what life was like before quarantine. One of the last few places I was out, surrounded by people, freely enjoying all life has to offer was Punta Cana: on our honeymoon.

Yes, I am a quarantine newlywed (as well as a brand new dog mom and home owner. Wearing all the hats over here!). We get the same question from everyone: “How’s that going?”

My answer, with a big smile and a subtle laugh, is always the same: “Interesting, to say the least.”

However, as I’m sitting here reflecting and sharing my thoughts with all of you, I’m realizing it’s been something totally different. It’s been a blessing.

My husband and I have been given the chance to start our marriage out completely focused on us.

We’ve been given the time to create habits, practices and traditions within our relationship that we may have otherwise not. We’ve been given the gift of time to just be - to relax, not have a plan or a jam packed schedule. And we’ve been given the grace to work through hardships with time, care, and true effort and honesty.

I know that all couples who are currently social distancing together are facing the ups and downs - routines shaken up, outlets taken away, and a whole lot of “togetherness”. Over the last few weeks, I’ve really learned and embraced (and encourage you to do the same) the positives in these changes. Take this time to reconnect with your partner, to get to know them in new ways, to heal old wounds, and to fall in love all over again.

Because the truth is - stay at home orders are a lot easier to handle when you’re staying at home with your best friend.
