Support for PTSD, relational trauma, and healing from the wounds of the past
“Hold yourself back, or heal yourself back together. You decide.”
― Brittany Burgunder
At Millennial Life Counseling, we are here to help you overcome the negative hold your past may have on you.
EMDR therapy has become one of the most widely used evidence-based treatment options to give clients a path forward into healing. We are confident and excited to be able to offer this option to you.
Our trauma therapist, Jordan Kerr, uses EMDR therapy to help clients heal from trauma and relational woundings.
What exactly is EMDR?
To put it simply, if you have experienced a traumatic or deeply impactful event in your life, you may be having some of the following symptoms that it’s affecting you: restlessness or inconsistent sleep patterns, panic attacks, heightened anxiety, strong self-shaming thoughts, grief or sadness, physical pain, dissociative disorders (disconnected or feeling not all “there”), phobias or increased fears, or depression and a low motivation to do anything.
These are symptoms related to your body’s process of holding onto what has happened. It’s important for you to know that you don’t have to feel this way for the rest of your life. There is so much hope in allowing yourself to experience the healing process.
EMDR therapy provides you with a space and technique by a trained professional where your brain and body can learn a new way to process these disturbing memories or experiences so that they don’t affect you like they have been.
What we treat
Our trauma therapist, Jordan Kerr, provides EMDR therapy for a range of presenting issues. Some of these include:
Grief and Loss
Accidents (car wrecks, etc.)
Phobias or fears (ex. agoraphobia, fear of flying)
Anxiety
Sexual assault or abuse
PTSD, CPTSD (Complex PTSD)
Dating trauma
Because our practice also holds a strong focus in couples therapy and relationship dynamics, we can also help couples process if EMDR therapy might be a beneficial intervention to bring into the process. This will be a collaborative process for both of you so that you feel safe and supported. If so, your therapist will outline the best ways to help the partner needing EMDR and how to structure your therapy experience.
Jordan Kerr, LPC Associate is supervised by Jessica Brazeal, MA, LPC-S and is a contract therapist at Millennial Life Counseling.
Common Questions & FAQ about EMDR
-
The goal of EMDR is to reduce the emotional intensity, not re-traumatize you. During sessions, the therapist guides the client through sets of bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, tapping, or sounds, while focusing on specific memories or thoughts. This allows you to build healthier beliefs about oneself, and promote lasting relief from symptoms related to trauma, anxiety, or other life challenges.
-
That’s okay—therapy is the place to figure that out. We’ll explore your goals together. Clients aren’t just thrown into EMDR therapy - we ensure it’s the right time, the right fit and that you’re ready to begin.
-
