🎧 Episode 57: Healing Trauma & the Nervous System with Kelsey D’Amore, MS, LPC-S, RPT-S
📝 Episode Summary:
This week, Liz sits down with Kelsey D’Amore, MS, LPC-S, RPT-S — Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor — to explore trauma, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and the nervous system, and how all of these impact the way we show up in relationships. Kelsey is also the Co-Founder of Connect to Thrive, a therapy practice dedicated to trauma-informed, culturally competent care. This episode offers a grounded and compassionate look at healing from the inside out.
💬 Episode Notes:
Our brains function like computers — every experience upgrades (or occasionally overloads) our “software.”
Many clinicians have done their own inner work and healing before guiding clients through similar processes.
Healing doesn’t always require talking through painful memories — the body itself can process and release trauma.
Painful experiences often fragment into *facts* (what happened) and *feelings* (how it felt), explaining why we can logically understand something yet still feel unsafe.
Emotional pain can manifest physically — mind-body connection is central to trauma recovery.
Chronic pain often stems from underlying feelings of helplessness or hopelessness.
Being a *regulated parent* — one who stays calm and grounded — matters far more than saying the “perfect” thing.
When one person in a family learns to self-regulate and show up authentically, the entire family system begins to heal.
Real change happens in small, consistent moments over time. Healing has no timeline — move at your own pace.
Sometimes we carry emotions, beliefs, or trauma that aren’t even ours — generational or inherited pain can be released through awareness and self-work.
